What is a Booze cap?
- Booze cap is an ignition interlocking device
- An ignition interlock device is a breathalyser installed in a vehicle to prevent the driver from starting the vehicle if their BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) is above the legal limit.
- The booze cap is directly connected to the starter relay of the vehicle, as well as the door and honk relays.
How the booze cap works
- When the driver puts the key in the ignition the Booze cap will prompt the driver to look straight into the camera for driver verification.
- Once the driver has been successfully verified the Booze cap will be ready for a breath test.
- The booze cap will prompt the driver to blow into the mouthpiece and then measure the BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration).
- If the BAC is below the legal limit the vehicle will start normally.
- If the BAC is above the legal limit the vehicle will not start.
- The booze cap will randomly prompt the driver to do multiple retests along the trip; this is to make sure the driver stays sober.
The booze cap will display the actual BAC value/reading after the test has been successfully completed.
